Oprah Winfrey is an American media executive, actress, talk show host, television producer and philanthropist. She is well known for The Oprah Show, her role in the movie “The Color Purple”, and for her television station OWN. She was born in Kosciusko, MS.


James Earl Jones is an American actor that was born in Arkabutla, MS. He is known for many roles, including the voice of Mufasa in "The Lion King" and Darth Vader in "Star Wars".


Morgan Freeman was not originally born in Mississippi, but he was raised in the state. He is an actor, director and narrator. He starred in movies such as “Driving Miss Daisy”, “Lean on Me”, and “Million Dollar Baby”.


David Ruffin was an American soul singer and musician most famous for his work as one of the lead singers of The Temptations. He and the Temptations sung hits such as “My Girl”, “Ain’t Too Proud To Beg”, and “The Way You Do the Things You Do”. He was born in Whynot, MS.


Brandy Norwood is an American singer, songwriter, record producer, and actress. She was born in McComb, MS. She has countless songs and albums that are known all over the world. And she even starred as the main character of the television series “Moesha”.


B.B. King was an American blues singer, electric guitarist, songwriter, and record producer that was born in Itta Bena, MS. His famous song “The Thrill Is Gone” is still recognized today. And he treasured one of his guitars so much so that he named it Lucille. Photo by Anthony Barboza.
